OAP search off as body found
THE search for a missing Rotherham pensioner has been called off after a body was found in a field.
Police said the body has not yet been formally identified, but officers are no longer looking for 71-year-old Baden Powell, who went missing after discharging himself from Rotherham District General Hospital.
The body was found in a field near the village of Ulley on Thursday afternoon.
A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out, but the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Mr Powell discharged himself from hospital on Sunday, at about 3pm.
He had collapsed in the Rhino public house earlier that day, but left hospital before he could be treated.
The pensioner, from Tinsley, failed to return home.
Police mounted a huge search operation, involving the Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team, but the operation was called off when the body was spotted by the police helicopter.
