NEWS IN BRIEF: Arsonists dump wheelie bin in field
A WHEELIE bin was dumped in a field off Birley Vale Road, Frecheville, Sheffield, and set alight in an arson attack. Firefighters were called out to extinguish the flames at 9.30pm on Monday.
Meanwhile binmen in North Derbyshire are being urged to contact police if they find bins dumped in strange locations and smelling of diesel.
Police are investigating several shed and outbuilding burglaries in the villages of Glapwell and Doe Lea, near Chesterfield, where wheelie bins have been used to carry away stolen items.
Manhole hit by car
A ROAD lane was closed after a Ford Focus was damaged when it struck a manhole cover sticking out from the ground. Police shut the lane on Ridgeway Road, Sheffield, and water officials were called to put the manhole back in place on Monday afternoon.
n Police closed Bawtry Road, Wickersley, Rotherham, when a man threatened to jump from a bridge.
He was talked down unharmed in the early hours of Monday.
