News In Brief: Thug locked up for attacking couple

A MAN who attacked two people with a chair leg has been jailed for 30 months.

Lee Woodger, aged 21, of Stubbing Road, Chesterfield, hit a 36-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman with the wooden implement after getting into an argument in the early hours of January 1.

The woman suffered a broken arm and the man needed stitches to his head.

Woodger pleaded guilty at Derby Crown Court to unlawful wounding and inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Car found burning

A VAUXHALL Corsa was set on fire under a railway bridge in Furlong Road, Bolton upon Dearne, during the early hours of Wednesday.

Firefighters from Dearne station received the call at around 4.45am. Police are investigating.

Pile of rubbish fire

A LARGE pile of rubbish was set ablaze on spare land off Deighton Bay Street, Thurnscoe, Barnsley, at 8.05pm on Tuesday. Firefighters from Dearne station attended.
