NEWS IN BRIEF: Search for driver who fled smash

INVESTIGATIONS are under way after a car left the road and overturned in a field, catching fire - and the driver is believed to have fled.

Police and firefighters were called to the A625 between Froggatt and Calver, at about 2.30am yesterday, with initial reports that a casualty was trapped in the VW Golf.

But a search found nobody inside the vehicle or in the surrounding area.

A Derbyshire Police spokeswoman said officers are now trying to trace the owner of the car, registered in South Yorkshire, to find out whether it had been stolen.

Pool emergency

A FIRE broke out in the extractor unit in the men’s toilet at Heeley swimming baths in Sheffield. Firefighters were called at about 4.50pm on Monday but the flames were out when they arrived.

Flat smoke logged

A FLAT was smoke-logged by fire but nobody was hurt. Firefighters were called to Bents View, off Ringinglow Road, at about 6.20pm on Monday.
