News In Brief: Family flee tumble dryer fire at home

A MAN, woman and child got out of their home unharmed after their kitchen went up in flames in the early hours of yesterday.

Their tumble dryer had caught fire in their flat on Hazlebarrow Grove, Jordanthorpe, Sheffield. Firefighters extinguished the flames.

Firefighters were also called to Snow Lane, Shalesmoor, Sheffield, after a pile of timber and carpet was found burning at 7.10pm on Monday. The blaze had been started deliberately.

Reports of firearm

ARMED police were called to reports of a disturbance where a firearm may have been seen in Sheffield. Officers said when they arrived at the incident - which they would reveal only was in the ‘east of the city’ over the weekend - they found a man had been assaulted by two or three offenders, but no shots had been fired.

Smouldering skip

FIRE crews were called out to a recycling company twice on the same night when an industrial skip went up in flames. Firefighters were called out initially to the business on Sheffield Road, Templeborough, Rotherham, at 11.05pm on Monday - and had to return at 3am when the skip started smouldering again.

Vehicles ablaze

A CAR caught fire yesterday at Rivelin Court, off Rivelin Valley Road, Sheffield. The blaze at 7.30am has been logged as accidental. A motorbike went up in flames in an arson attack in woodland off Sicey Avenue, Shiregreen, Sheffield, at 9pm on Monday.

Wheelie bin arson

FIREFIGHTERS were called out to Oldfield Road, East Herringthorpe, Rotherham, after a number of wheelie bins were set alight. On the same night - Monday - bins were also set alight on Queen Mary Road, Manor, Sheffield.

Land Rover thefts

SMARTWATER is being offered to Land Rover drivers in North Derbyshire to help police recover parts if stolen. Land Rovers are being targeted specifically by thieves.

Burglar breaks in

A HOUSE on Cartmell Road, Woodseats, Sheffield, was broken into through an insecure window on Friday morning.
