NEWS IN BRIEF:

Bad weather halts food chain plans

A BID to create a ‘human food chain’ in Sheffield has been cancelled by snow.

All Saints Catholic High School pupils planned to transport 4,000 tins of donated food to a nearby charity by passing it along a mile-long line of children yesterday. But, like last year, the event was postponed due to bad weather. The food will now be driven to the St Vincent de Paul furniture store and given to vulnerable families.

Chimney ablaze

A CHIMNEY fire was put out in Dronfield. Crews were called to a home on Appletree Drive at 9.40pm on Tuesday. Smoke alarms were fitted after the fire was out.

Scooter dumped

A DUMPED motor scooter was found ablaze in Lowedges Park, off Gresley Road, at 6.30am on Wednesday.

Tyres set on fire

FOUR tyres were set ablaze on Crow Lane, Chesterfield, at 9.30pm on Tuesday.
