FIREFIGHTERS had to cut a motorist from the wreckage of his BMW car after the vehicle left the Sheffield Parkway, careered down an embankment, and hit a tree.

The out-of-city carriageway was closed between the Handsworth junction and Catcliffe for more than three hours following the collision at about 2.30am on Saturday.

No other vehicles were involved and the young male driver was taken to hospital.

Car blazes tackled

THREE cars were destroyed in suspected arson attacks.

Firefighters were called to incidents at Back Lane, Eckington, just before 11pm on Friday, Spring Close Mount, Gleadless Valley, Sheffield, just before midnight on Saturday, where a Renault Megane car was on fire, and Queen Street, Chesterfield, at 4am yesterday, where a small hatchback was alight.

Bike and tool theft

POLICE are appealing for information after a toolbox and a motorbike were stolen after a break-in at a garage.

A Yamaha motorcycle and a blue ‘Snap-on’ tool chest, along with a number of tools, were taken from the garage on Welbeck Street, Whitwell, overnight between Tuesday, and Wednesday last week.

Steelworks drama

Workers and security staff were evacuated from a steelworks after a small fire broke out in switching gear.

The incident happened at 8pm on Friday at the IEP Doncaster firm on Penistone Road, Sheffield.
