NEWS IN BRIEF:

Tragic cat sought shelter from cold

A CAT died after seeking shelter in the wheel-arch of a car and getting trapped in the engine compartment.

Firefighters from Rotherham were called to free the animal on Park View Road, Kimberworth, at around 5.30pm on Friday.

The owner of the vehicle raised the alarm after the car broke down the previous day. Crews attended on a ‘humanitarian’ mission, but the cat had passed away some time before it was discovered.

It is believed the animal got into the compartment seeking shelter from cold weather.

A MAN suffered serious injuries following an assault in Doncaster on Saturday.

The 39-year-old was attacked in King’s Road, near Broxholme Road, at 5.30pm.

South Yorkshire Police believe up to three men were involved in the assault. The man was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary where yesterday his condition was described as ‘serious but stable’.
