New vicar for two churches

The new vicar of the United Benefice of Tickhill and Stainton is the Rev Christopher Betson, who is currently Assistant Curate at St James Church, Anston, near Sheffield.

He will become Tickhill’s 43rd vicar since the year 1289 and replaces Rev Canon Gordon Taylor, who retired in May last year after serving for eight years and who now lives in Doncaster.

During the interregnum period before the new appointment, visiting and retired vicars, licensed readers and churchwardens led the services.

The churchwardens at Tickhill St Mary’s Church, Philip Beavers, Judith Black and John Marsden, and Stainton St Winifrid’s Church, Kath Adey and Denise Woodward, are making the arrangements for Mr Betson’s institution.
