SHEFFIELD Council leader Julie Dore is taking on a national role to lobby on financial and investment policy for Britain’s eight biggest cities.
The Labour politician, who took the helm in Sheffield in May 2011, has been appointed to the post as part of a new Cabinet of Core Cities.
Coun Dore said she aims to drive an ‘ambitious programme for jobs and growth’ to maximise economic potential.
The Cabinet of Core Cities has written to the Prime Minister urging the Government to support its aim to promote the UK’s largest cities outside London.
Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson said: “These are the toughest times ever for local government, with unprecedented reductions in funding which will change forever the way in which we deliver services.
“Nobody will be left untouched by the scale of cuts.”
