Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, has today (Wednesday, December 4) announced a new scheme to ensure that residents are paying the lowest energy prices possible.

The council’s new energy switching programme will begin in Spring 2014. It will offer a route for residents to reduce their outgoings by taking advantage of the best deals available on the market, and switch to a cheaper energy supplier there and then.

Residents will be able to compare and switch online via the Doncaster Council’s website, or by calling a free telephone number. The process will be simple and only take around 15 minutes. The scheme, which was agreed by Cabinet this morning, will be open to all.

Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said: “Tackling fuel poverty across Doncaster is one of my top priorities. This scheme is about ensuring those that are most vulnerable are supported. Residents won’t need internet access, one simple call will help people get on the right tariff and save money. Through this scheme families will be able to save up to £250 annually by moving to a different provider.”

Councillor Christine Mills, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “It is important that families in Doncaster don’t pay any more than they need to for their gas and electricity. This scheme complements the council’s other work to promote energy company grants for insulation and boiler replacements.”
