British Transport Police are appealing for help after a near miss at Holmes level crossing.
Just after 9.10pm last Thursday, May 22, a Reading to Newcastle Cross Country service was travelling through Rotherham when the driver spotted a person on the line.
PC Maya Limbani said: “The driver hit the emergency brakes and sounded the horn, but was unable to stop and was convinced he had struck the pedestrian.”
But an extensive search found no trace of anyone.
“This was a serious incident, which traumatised a member of staff and caused significant delays to services, and it is imperative we trace the individual,” PC Limbani said. Call 0800 40 50 40.
