A man arrested on suspicion of murdering a South Yorkshire woman has been released on bail.
The 60-year-old was arrested following the discovery of the body of 58-year-old Val Walker in her home on Gladstone Road, Maltby, Rotherham, on Monday.
A post mortem examination of the body proved inconclusive. More tests are due to be carried out.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Detectives are continuing to investigate the death of a woman from the Rotherham area.
“Officers were called to a house in Gladstone Road, Maltby, early on Monday, where the body of the 58-year-old woman was found.
“A 60-year-old local man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
“A post mortem conducted Monday afternoon was inconclusive and further tests will be undertaken to determine the cause of the woman’s death.”
Crime scene investigation vans were parked outside Mrs Walker’s home on Monday while forensic experts examined the property.
Detectives also carried out house-to-house enquiries on the quiet cul-de-sac, where neighbours spoke of their shock and sadness of Mrs Walker’s death.
They said they had seen her husband Alan trimming the outside of their home for Christmas the day before the death.
Neighbours said he hung icicle lights from the eaves of their immaculate bungalow and placed lights in the tree on the front lawn.
It is understood Mrs Walker, a grandmother, had been ill for some time.
Officers found Mrs Walker’s body after being called to the bungalow in the early hours.
