Mugger runs into car in escape bid

E-fit of a man police would like to trace in connection with an attempted burglary in Balby in January.

E-fit of a man police would like to trace in connection with an attempted burglary in Balby in January.

A WOULD-be mugger who was nearly run over on a busy Doncaster dual carriageway as he fled from the scene of his crime is being hunted by police.

Officers are hoping motorists travelling along the A630 through Balby may recall the man, possibly armed with a knife, running into the path of a vehicle last month as he sprinted away.

They have also issued an efit of a man who may be able to assist them with their inquiries into the alleged attempted robbery on Balby Road, Doncaster.

It happened at around 2.30pm on Tuesday, January 8, when two men, aged 21 and 34, were walking along Balby Road towards Westfield Park.

They became aware of a man following them so the two men moved aside to let the unknown man pass.

But they soon realised the man was following them again as they were walking past Westfield Park.

“It is alleged the unknown man then threatened them and demanded personal items,” said a police spokesman.

“He is believed to have been carrying a bladed article.

“The 34-year-old man tried to defend himself and the 21-year-old, at which point the suspect is then believed to have run straight across Balby Road, where he has collided with a silver car.

“The suspect is then believed to have got to his feet and continued to run away.”

The man in the efit image is white, aged between 18 and 22, approximately 5ft 10ins tall, with short dark hair, a thin moustache, of slim build, with a pointy nose and a pale complexion.

He was wearing a thin hooded ski jacket and dark bottoms.

Anyone who recognises the image as a man they know, or who has any information, or who may have witnessed the incident, should contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident 640 of January 8.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
