MPs’ college cash appeal
FOUR South Yorkshire MPs have written to Education Secretary Michael Gove asking for a ‘substantial increase’ to the national £180 million grant for colleges - to help with a black hole in Barnsley College’s funding.
Labour politicians Angela Smith, Dan Jarvis, Michael Dugher and John Healey, whose constituencies all cover parts of Barnsley, say they ‘want assurances that Barnsley College will be adequately funded’ to deliver its courses.
They say the institution is currently £350,000 short.
Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher added: “The Government needs to act now and guarantee that the resources allocated to the fund will be sufficient to meet the essential needs of disadvantaged students.”
