Miliband warns children will be ‘jilted generation’
Ed Miliband has warned that young people like his two sons will be part of a ‘jilted generation’ because of the Government’s failure to protect them from spending cuts.
The Doncaster North MP and Labour leader, who said his sons would be the most important guests at his wedding on Friday, vowed that his party will not allow young people to get left behind.
Coalition claims that harsh deficit-reduction measures will help future generations have been ‘blown apart’ by the evidence that they are ‘bearing so much of the burden’.
Scrapping the Future Jobs Fund, increasing student debt, placing extra taxes on families and cutting education maintenance money showed that ministers did not understand the problem, Mr Miliband said.
His speech came as more details were disclosed about his wedding to long-term partner Justine Thornton, being held at Langar Hall hotel near Nottingham, such as the couple’s decision to forego gifts. Instead, the beneficiaries will be children’s charity Barnardo’s and Methodist Homes for the Aged.
