Man fined for pulling sledge around playing field with car

A MAN was fined after taking his car onto a snowy park to tow a boy around on his sledge.

Police were called after the man was spotted driving his four-wheel drive Mercedes ML270 around the playing fields at Cantley Park, pulling the youngster behind him just after noon on Sunday.

He was spotted by the South Yorkshire Police Helicopter, which helped officers on the ground follow the car as it left the playing fields.

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers attended and issued a fine to the driver for unauthorised off-road driving.”

The incident came as Doncaster saw its first snow of the year, with many people taking to the parks to make the most of the chance to go sledging.

Forecasters were last night predicting there could be more snow today.

Hospital bosses reported an increase in the number of broken bones being dealt with at Doncaster Royal Infirmary on Saturday night and Sunday morning, when the snow came.

There were 28 cases compared to 10 over the same period the previous week.

Doncaster Council used 550 tonnes of grit on the roads during the weekend. Gritters were out again last night with temperatures forecast to be freezing again.
