A Barnsley man has pleaded guilty to the ‘horrendous’ knifepoint rape of a woman in her own home.
Matthew David Jones, aged 30, of Manor Street, Carlton, Barnsley, pleaded guilty at Sheffield Crown Court to two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of false imprisonment.
The court heard Jones forced his way into an address in the town in the early hours of Saturday, March 8.
He sexually assaulted and raped the terrified 20-year-old female victim twice, and threatened her with a knife during the attack.
When Jones left the property the woman, who did not know her attacker, contacted the police.
Jones was arrested four days later.
Detective Sergeant Rob Platts, from South Yorkshire Police, said: “This is one of the most horrendous cases I have dealt with in my career, due to the nature of the attack and the level of violence used.”
He said thankfully the victim had been spared the ordeal of a trial.
“The fact the defendant has pleaded guilty has spared his victim a second ordeal of facing her attacker in court.”
Jones will be sentenced on September 5.
