A man has been issued with a £90 fixed penalty ticket for wasting police time after he made a false report of robbery.

The 22-year-old man from Doncaster called police to report that he had been robbed at knifepoint by a gang of four men on Wentworth Road, Doncaster at 2am yesterday following a night out.

However, subsequent enquiries proved that the man had not been a victim of crime, and he was issued with a £90 fixed penalty ticket for false reporting.

PC Stevie Kent, who dealt with the case, said: “Police put a great deal of time, effort and resources into investigating every report of criminal activity. It is therefore disappointing that some people waste police time by making false reports.

“On this occasion, after further questioning, the man admitted to making a false report after he said that he had spent all his money and lost his bank card.

“All reported crimes are treated seriously and I hope this case serves as a warning to those who think they can get away with making false reports.”
