Local people help resolve issues

RESIDENTS in Barnsley are helping to resolve neighbourhood disputes.

Volunteers are helping resolve issues of anti-social behaviour and low level crime reported to South Yorkshire Police, Barnsley Council or Berneslai Homes.

The scheme is aimed at those prepared to change their ways and resolve issues.

PC Julie Oxley, Neighbourhood Resolutions Coordinator, said: “Since the launch we have seen a dramatic reduction in repeat calls following work with parties who have reported neighbour disputes and anti-social behaviour and who want to improve the quality of their lives.

“We have a team of 32 trained facilitators living across Barnsley. Our facilitators are all community focused and have a vested interest in seeing the communities where they live improve.”

Police and Crime Commissioner Shaun Wright said: “Neighbourhood Resolutions is an initiative that empowers people in their own neighbourhoods, and offers tangible benefits where local people use their local knowledge for the betterment of their own communities.”
