LIB DEMS: Angry protestors descend on city hall - VIDEO

Waiting for Video...

HUNDREDS of protestors marched on Sheffield’s City Hall this evening as, inside, the Lib Dem Spring Conference got underway.

The mood was angry as the crowd voiced their concerns about tuition fees and public spending cuts, shouting: ‘Clegg Clegg Clegg, out out out!’ and ‘Shame on you for turning blue.’

There was a strong police presence at the eight foot metal fence surrounding the perimeter of the City Hall, which protected the delegates as they arrived for the three-day event.

‘You’re a traitor to your class’ protesters shouted in the coppers’ faces at what was otherwise described as a peaceful protest.

“These cuts are disgusting and we’re here to make sure our voice is heard,” said 17-year-old protestor Tom Kay who,a long with a hanfdul of individuals, led the march.

“The main protest will take place tomorrow and Nick CLegg needs to be prepared because this is a fight we intend to win.”

Labour had plenty of time to reverse the damage done by Maggie Thatcher when she deregulated the banks. Blair didn't give a toss, and Brown was a coward when it came to reregulating the banks. So Labour must share their portion of blame, which is greater for the fact that they COULD have done something to stop the worst excesses of the banks but loved the Thatcherite lite touch so much that they didn't do anything to stop this mess. And if the Tories had been in power at the time they would have done nowt either. Tories Blue Labour = the same.

Dogsknob by name and nature ? The banking crisis happened under Labours watch and Labours legislation. So either Labour were to stupid and didn't see it coming or saw it coming and did nothing about it until they had to. Either way Labour were incompetent.

Post 21-PaulSheffield...As endearing as your perochial views are, you really must reflect a little more before spouting your venom. Firstly, Labour didn't let the banks get in a mess, the banks let the banks get in a mess - despite the huge bonuses. Secondly, no-one is suggesting that cuts aren't needed, but idealogically-insired cuts, cuts that destroy the NHS and ruin the education system, those cuts are neither fair nor necessary. Finally, can I suggest that you spend a little more time doing your REAL job and less commenting on things you, apparently, know nothing about... Post 17-Serendipity...Our current debt is significantly less than it was after WW2 following the Marshall Plan. The difference is we paid that back over 50 years - not 5 years. The only reason these cuts are being made in the way they are is to suit the ideology of the Conservative Party. All this rubbish about the state the Labour Party left the country in is complete nonsense. The banking crisis was a global phenomenon not a national one - regardless of what Messrs Clegg and Cameron tell you. While you are right that money doesn't grow on trees, it doesn't grow by putting people out of work either...

@5 - You know what poster 5 I hope you are right because I for one am sick of working my a55 of to fund scrounging scum like you and the rest of them on the protest and people in non jobs. You can protest all you want because it won't make a bit of difference the cuts are landing and its going to force people like you to get up in a morning and get a real job instead of relying on the majority to fund your weed smoking lifestyle through our taxes. I suppose in your opinion we don't need any cuts and we should have just carried on borrowing on the credit card until the country collapsed should we? I honestly love reading posts like yours as I know that if your posting your drivel then the cuts are doing their job. ....... Oh and by the way which government first bailed the banks out hmmmmmm let me think oh yeah that's right The Red Scum with Northern Rock as it was Liebour that allowed the banks to get in the mess they did not the Tories or the Lib Dems you Muppet....

Tom kay what a anchor , this is more embarrassing than a threat, I see the socialist un washed there full of scare tactics people will kill them selfs because of the lib dems will they?, better than getting murdered in Iraq or afganhistan from the labour government the war on terror that's where the money went! that's more accountable and the banks and the free everything for illegal and non uk passport holders, not to mention the size of housing waiting lists under the socialist labour, we are now paying for labour emptying the country of money, and running up debts. uni courses run for 4 years and will cost 36,000 pounds if your so clever get 36,000 pounds and start a company, or buy a house, but this is the thing your only paying this money back if your doing well after uni if you don't get a good job your not paying it back, that's the gamble on the governments part and the banks, I hope to see Tom Kay getting arrested and dragged of to be given some syp hospitality , then no point going to uni with a criminal record is there, job application arrested for being a disruptive guy, well thought out.... also the police and the courts of Sheffield will be making arrests left right and centre tomorrow to justify there presence garunteed they need to dish out a hefty amount of fines to get money back also this is why the courts are open all day Saturday protest away you will self fund the police for us!

They should be saving their protests for the Labour Party conference, as it was those feckless clowns who bankrupted the country in the first place. We are £1 trillion in debt, with interest payments of £120 million a day. The protesters never give any alternative for reducing the defecit; they seem to think either money grows on trees or we can just continue living beyond our means forever.
