Knifeman stole cash till from Barnsley off licence

A man burst into an off licence in Barnsley brandishing a knife and demanded money from terrified staff.

The man, who was dressed in a grey hoodie with the hood up and navy tracksuit bottoms, had a black scarf covering his face.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said that the raid happened at around 9pm on Monday night at Bargain Booze in Station Road, Thurnscoe, Barnsley.

Police said the man managed to steal the till, which contained cash, from the shop and fled along John Street on foot.

The suspect is described as white and aged in his late 20s.

He was of slim build, around 5ft 7ins to 5ft 8ins tall and spoke with a local accent.

Witnesses or anyone with any information about the robbery is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
