Joint police crackdown on criminals

Police from Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley joined forces in a three-day operation to tackle crime across the Dearne area.

Since Wednesday police officers and police community support officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Teams in the Dearne have combined resources to provide reassurance to the community and deter people who are involved in criminal activity.

A number of police operations took place, including raids, patrols, sniffer dogs searching for drugs, mounted officers and automatic number plate recognition operations, looking for vehicles that are known to be linked to crime.

Officers also patrolled the local area to provide reassurance to the public and offer crime prevention advice.

Chief Inspectors Gwyn Thomas from Doncaster, Ian Womersley from Rotherham, and Simon Wanless from Barnsley all led the operation on different days.

Chf Insp Thomas said: “This operation is about officers from Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley working more closely together in the Dearne area.

“Criminals travel and do not operate just within geographical boundaries.

“In Swinton, Goldthorpe and Mexborough similar crimes are being committed by the same people.

“By joining our resources together we are able to combat crime in the Dearne area much more effectively.”
