A TERRIFIED jeweller whose shop was the target of a failed robbery by a masked gang says he has not slept since the ordeal.

Haider Chishty had started to pack away the valuable jewellery in his shop on Abbeydale Road just before 6pm on Tuesday when four men, all wearing masks, attempted to use a wooden battering ram to smash down the back door.

Mr Chishty, whose shop was also targeted by thieves in 2006, said he saw the attack taking place on the CCTV screen and immediately shouted upstairs for his wife to call the police.

“The battering ram they used was absolutely massive,” he said.

“Since then neither myself nor my wife have been able to sleep.

“I’ve not slept a single minute. It was a very scary experience for us both.”

Following the failed attempt, the men fled the scene in a car.

n Anyone with any information or who believes they may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 832 of Tuesday, February 26. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
