AN INQUEST has been opened into the death of a man who died after his car was involved in a collision with a double decker bus in Sheffield.

Craig Walmsley, aged 28, of Hartington Close, Masbrough, Rotherham, was travelling along Brightside Lane, Atlas, when the black Volkswagen Golf he was driving hit a bus which was travelling in the opposite direction.

Craig lived with his mum Carol, sister Tamara and brothers Benji and Aaron.

A neighbour said the community had been left shocked by the tragic death.

“He only moved here a couple of months ago to live with his mum, who moved up from Birmingham,” he said.

“Craig was friendly and polite and would always say hello - his death was a shock.”

Flowers have been left at the spot where the accident happened.

Among them is a bouquet from Chantelle, who describes herself as Craig’s ‘baby mother’.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “The collision happened 150 metres the city side of Woodbine Road near a railway bridge.

“A black VW Golf was travelling towards Meadowhall on the A6109 Brightside Lane when it is believed to have lost control and travelled sideways towards the bridge.

“A Volvo double-decker bus travelling in the opposite direction, towards Sheffield city centre, tried to manoeuvre away from the Golf but the two vehicles collided.”

The inquest has been adjourned to a date not yet set for further enquiries to be carried out on behalf of the coroner.
