Helicopter spots ‘lampers’

poachers suspected of shooting pheasants at night were detained by Doncaster police after the force helicopter was brought in to assist in the search.

Police were called out at around 10.20pm one night last week when members of the public reported a group of men ‘lamping’ in a field on Green Lane, Barnburgh.

Assisted by the helicopter, officers were guided to two men who had hidden four dead pheasants and an air rifle.

Officers seized the rifle and other lamping equipment, and two men have been reported on summons.
