The Kayani family has been overwhelmed with offers of financial support since the tragedy which claimed five lives – but have asked for donations to Sheffield Children’s Hospital instead.
Madina Mosque committee chairman Waheed Akhtar said the family was appreciative of the offers, but would like the money to be donated instead to good causes to benefit children.
“The family has received a number of offers of financial support – people wishing to give money to the family,” he said. “They are very grateful for every expression of support people have given, however they will not be taking any of that money.
“They are very grateful but would ask if people want to mark this in any way they donate to children’s charities such as Sheffield Children’s Hospital.”
Relatives have not been allowed into the charred remains of the house since the fire, and the family have been living in the mosque.
