A TEENAGE girl walking home from a night out in Sheffield was punched in the mouth by a ‘dirty’ robber who stole her £500 phone.
The 18-year-old was walking alone on Egerton Street, Broomhall, when she was approached by a man who was ‘dirty in appearance’, who spoke briefly to her before lunging at her.
She suffered a blow to the mouth, and the thug - with a gaunt face, large hooked nose, and wearing a pom-pom hat - grabbed her black iPhone 4, worth around £500.
The man ran down the street and turned right into an alleyway that leads to a housing estate.
The girl suffered injuries to her mouth and, although she did not need medical treatment, she has been left ‘distressed’, police said.
The robber was white, 6ft, skinny and aged around 35. He was wearing a knitted jacket and baggy jeans, believed to have been light blue, and his hat may have been striped with tassels.
Police also want to speak to potential witnesses – who were in a black VW Golf, with blacked-out windows, on nearby Milton Street just before the attack – to get in touch in case they saw anything.
Detective Sergeant Mark Cockayne urged iPhone owners to install the ‘Find My iPhone’ software to help the recovery of their property if stolen.
“People should be vigilant,” he said. “Try to make your way home in well-lit areas and ensure you’re not alone.
“Also, try not to have mobile phones or other valuables on display if you can possibly avoid it.”
Anyone with information about the robbery at 2.45am on Wednesday should call police on 101 quoting incident 71 of February 13.
