A young girl has been injured after she was hit by a car in Stannington.
The accident happened at around 8.20am today on Liberty Hill, close to its junction with Stannington Road.
The nine-year-old girl was struck by a car as she was crossing the road.
The driver is believed to have stopped to check on the condition of the girl before driving away from the scene.
The youngster suffered facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police are keen to speak to the man who was driving and are appealing for him to get in touch.
He was driving a silver 4x4 type vehicle.
Police are also keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the accident and may have witnessed it.
The driver and witnesses are asked to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 181 of July 17, 2014.
