Girl, 1, in crash now improving

THE little girl injured in a fatal car crash near Doncaster before Christmas is showing signs of recovery.

South Yorkshire Police said last night the one-year-old girl from Wath-upon-Dearne is now in a stable condition in Sheffield Children’s Hospital, after previously being described as critical.

The collision between a BMW Compact and a lorry on the A638 Great North Road at Redhouse, caused the death of Luke Hardwick, aged 18, from Swinton, on Thursday of last week.

The driver of the lorry was not badly injured, and two other occupants of the car were treated for minor injuries. The BMW driver was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The car was performing a U-turn when it collided with the lorry, police said.
