Fundraisers running in memory of the 96 football fans who died at the Hillsborough disaster are aiming to raise thousands of pounds for children’s hospitals in Sheffield and Liverpool by running 96 miles between the two cities.
The run begins on April 4, departing from the pitch of Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium, and finishes on the pitch at Anfield three days later.
It is the second run between the two stadiums to take place – with this year’s raising money for Sheffield’s Children’s Hospital Charity and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
Team Leader Dominic Williams said: “The Hillsborough tragedy badly affected many people from both Liverpool and Sheffield. One of the things we’re trying to do with this run is to keep the memory of Hillsborough alive in people’s minds, but also to help bring some good out of it – a brighter future.
“By linking the two cities in the run and raising money for both Alder Hey and Sheffield’s Children’s Hospital Charity, we hope to strengthen the bond between both cities.”
Rebecca Staden, Senior Fundraiser at The Children’s Hospital Charity Sheffield, said: “We’re honoured to be one of the charities to benefit from this inspiring event, which is bringing so many people together.
“The money raised will go to our Make it Better appeal, to help transform The Children’s Hospital here in Sheffield and make our extraordinary hospital even better.”
