FORMER Sheffield Wednesday striker Francis Jeffers was found by police wielding a broom stick after a row with his father-in-law, a court heard.
Officers responded to a 999 call on December 21 last year, Sefton Magistrates’ Court heard.
Lorraine Barton, prosecuting, told the court that Jeffers, aged 31, of Crosby, Liverpool, had recently separated from his wife Lucy, who he married in 2009.
She said: “Their marriage had broken down and an incident took place outside his flat.”
“Officers attended. They found Mr Jeffers outside one of the flats with a broom stick,” she added.
The court was told that the victim was Albert Boden - the defendant’s father-in-law and that he was found by police with “some injuries”.
Jeffers was arrested but made a no comment interview.
He was then charged with threatening behaviour.
Jeffers, who is currently without a club, spoke to confirm his name, age and address.
Peter Rathe, chairman of the bench, bound Jeffers over for 12 months for £100 and the public order charged was formally dismissed.
Jeffers, who was highly-rated early in his career commanding an £8 million transfer fee when he moved from Everton to Arsenal, played for the Owls between 2007 and 2010, making 54 appearances but scoring only five goals.
