Former Lib Dem in UKIP switch

A FORMER Sheffield Council Liberal Democrat member and current Stocksbridge town councillor has announced he is joining UKIP.

Coun Jack Clarkson, a retired police inspector, left the Lib Dems some time ago and recently served as an independent councillor.

Coun Clarkson said: “For the last six months I’ve been quite involved with UKIP campaigning on several fronts.

“I’ve met some nice genuine people who ‘tell it as it is’ and are not afraid to speak out about real issues and not bury their heads in the sand like other mainstream parties.

“I will ensure common sense policies and proposals are put forward and supported.”

Nigel Farage, UKIP leader, said: “Jack’s move to UKIP just highlights that our members come from across the spectrum.”
