Dozens of firefighters are this morning tackling a hughe blaze on an industrial estate in Sheffield.

The fire, off Station Road, Ecclesfield, was reported to emergency services at 10pm last night.

It started in a disused industrial unit, which was full of plastic material.

Firefighters said flames have spread to a car spraying business next door, which has suffered a significant amount of damage.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze will be launched once the flames are extinguished but the fire is still raging this morning, with five fire appliances still at the scene.

At the height of the blaze overnight there were eight appliances from across South Yorkshire involved in the firefighting operation.

Fire chiefs are in discussions with the Environment Agency and Public Health England to come up with a firefighting plan which will minimise pollution.

But they are urging local residents to keep their doors and windows closed while plumes of smoke are still billowing into the air.

Station Road is closed while emergency services deal with the incident.

It is expected to remain sealed off for most of the day.

Workers based on the industrial estate will not be allowed access today.
