A blaze which wiped out five members of a Sheffield family across three generations may have been a tragic accident, investigations have so far found.

The ferocious fire – South Yorkshire’s most serious in terms of loss of life in five years – started on the ground floor of the terrace home on Wake Road in Nether Edge.

The cause was still under investigation today, but is not thought to be suspicious.

“So far nothing has been found which suggests the fire was started deliberately,” a fire brigade spokesman said.

“Efforts continue to establish the exact cause of the fire, which is believed to have started on the ground floor.”

Shabbina Begum, aged 54, her daughter Anum Parwaiz Kayani, 20, and her three grandchildren Adyan Parwaiz Kayani, nine, Amaan, seven, and their nine-week-old baby sister died in the fire.
