Fear asylum seeker could be killed if deported to Africa

AN AFRICAN woman who has lived in Sheffield for more than seven years, after fleeing her homeland when relatives were murdered, is facing deportation.

Odette Sefuko, aged 35, came to the city in 2005 from the Democratic Republic of Congo. She says her family were attacked by soldiers and accused of aiding ‘the opposition’.

Odette’s father, mother and husband were all murdered and supporters say they are worried she could suffer the same fate if sent back.

She has been detained by the UK Border Agency and taken to Yarl’s Wood Detention Centre, facing deportation on March 4.

Odette has worked as a volunteer in Sheffield for the Northern Refugee Centre, St Mary’s Lunch Club, Low Edges Conversation Club and has been a member of St Mary’s Church, Bramall Lane.
