The devastated family of a Bulgarian woman stabbed to death in a Sheffield street say she was ‘fighting for a better life’.
Dimitrina Borisova was killed in Blackstock Road, Gleadless Valley. on Thursday, February 21, at about noon.
Witnesses said she was involved in a row with a man who then stabbed her repeatedly
Horrified residents raced to her aid, but Ms Borisova, from Hillsborough, could not be saved.
Her family were flown from Bulgaria and arrived in Sheffield on Friday.
They will remain with detectives for several days to assist with the investigation before returning home next week.
A statement from the Borisova family read: “We would like for people who knew her to know that her family had always loved her unconditionally.
“We are deeply grieved for her loss and we admire her determination and fight for life.
“Despite the difficulties in her life, we have always supported her and believed in her.
“She was a very strong person full of love and life.
“She was fighting for a better life for herself and the people she loved.”
The family also said they were deeply touched by the memorial service held at Gleadless Methodist Church, close to the scene of the attack.
Friends and residents attended the service to pay their respects last Thursday.
Erhan Mehmedov, aged 44, of Blackstock Road, Gleadless Valley, has been charged with Ms Borisova’s murder.
He appeared via video link at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday, March 1, when his case was adjourned for trial at the court starting on Monday, June 17. Mehmedov was remanded in custody
