A £500 reward is on offer for the safe return of a pedigree dog snatched from outside a shop while his owner was picking up groceries.

The pug - named Dave - was stolen by the driver of a green Land Rover Discovery while his owner, Joanne Dunwell, was shopping at Khela’s convenience store on Rotherham Road, Killamarsh.

Joanne said Dave, aged four, is well-known in the community, and popular with local children when he dresses up in novelty outfits at Halloween and in festive jumpers over Christmas.

The 44-year-old said she and her partner, Andrew Oxley, 50, and their children Jacob, 14, and Laura, 12, of Sheffield Road, are desperate to be reunited with their beloved pet.

“I have had him since he was a puppy,” she said.

“He is absolutely adorable. He doesn’t know he is a pug, he thinks he is a human. His favourite thing is to be snuggled up.

“I’m in such a state about it. I have got two kids who are devastated.”

Police are investigating the theft at about 12.30pm on New Year’s Day.
