Extra school security advice

Police community support officers are visiting schools in Doncaster this month.

The move is to provide crime prevention advice and mark all valuable equipment following the recent theft of laptops from a school in Sprot-brough and a number of attempted school break-ins.

The PCSOs will be advising staff to mark IT equipment with a visible deterrent, such as yellow paint or an engraving, to deter thieves, making the items difficult to sell.

Schools will also be encouraged to store unused IT equipment in a locked cupboard when not in use. Any electrical equipment can also be registered on the Immobilise database www.immobilise.com.

Crime prevention officers will also be providing advice to the school regarding perimeter security, CCTV and intruder alarms.
