Ex-mayor’s son in robbery case

THE son of former Doncaster Mayor Martin Winter has appeared before Doncaster Crown Court on a charge of robbery.

Joss Nathaniel Winter, aged 18, of Lancaster Crescent, Kirk Sandall, appeared in the dock yesterday. The case was adjourned until April for a plea and case management hearing.

It was the first hearing at the crown court following committal from the magistrates’ court.

A co-defendant, Ashley Hirst, aged 19, of Athelstane Crescent, Edenthorpe, will face trial in May on a joint charge of robbing Richard Hughes of a mobile phone and cash worth £140 last October.

Both defendants were granted conditional bail with a night curfew until 7am at their home addresses.

Mr Winter was the first Elected Mayor of Doncaster, from 2002 to 2009, before he decided not to stand again.
