FORMER Sheffield United star Billy Sharp returned to South Yorkshire – and raised more than £10,000 for the charity set up in memory of his son.
It was a night to remember at the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster as the Luey Jacob Sharp Foundation held its inaugural charity dinner and raised more than £10,000.
The event attracted more than 290 guests, including former Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws, former Sheffield United striker James Beattie, Doncaster Rovers players and Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher.
Sheffield-born Billy and his partner Jade Fair set up the Foundation in memory of their son Luey Jacob Sharp who had gastroschisis – a birth defect in which an infant’s intestines stick out of the body.
He said: “Jade and I are so grateful to everyone who attended and showed their support. We are overwhelmed that our first dinner for the charity has raised so much money and helped increase awareness of gastroschisis.
“It was a very emotional night for us and to see so many people backing the foundation was just fantastic.”
Guest speaker on the night was Matt Le Tissier, who said: “I was honoured to have been asked. The LJS Foundation is a wonderful charity and I am happy to offer my support in any way I can. Billy and Jade should be very proud of what they have achieved. I wish them and the charity all the best.”
