Rotherham United’s New York Community Stadium will be officially opened by the Duke of Kent.
The Duke will also unveil a memorial plaque at the stadium when he visits as part of a tour of the Dearne Valley on Tuesday.
To honour the Royal visit, community activities will take place on the pitch and in the hospitality lounges, and the Duke of Kent will also receive a tour of the stadium and be introduced to local dignitaries and sponsors, including World Cup final referee and Millers Honorary Ambassador, Howard Webb.
Chairman Tony Stewart said: “Receiving a visit from the Duke of Kent is a tremendous honour and one which everyone at Rotherham United is very excited about.
“The unveiling of the specially made plaque will provide the finishing touch to the New York Stadium, and it will be a proud day for the directors, myself and everyone associated with Rotherham United FC.”
As well as the football club, the Duke will visit the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds’ nature reserve at Old Moor, ASOS and Kostal Ltd.
The Duke will also unveil a plaque to officially open the RSPB play zone at Old Moor.
Matthew Capper, site manager at RSPB Old Moor, said: “We’re all really excited to be welcoming the Duke to our reserve and look forward to showing him all we have to offer.”
