Driver’s plea after smash wrecks car

A MOTORIST whose car was wrecked in a hit-and-run smash has called for the culprits to be shopped to police.

Sue Eller’s pride and joy Seat Ibiza was badly damaged outside her own home after another car ploughed into it - but the driver sped off without reporting the smash.

She said: “My car was in a bad way so the other vehicle must have been too. Fortunately no-one was in my car at the time, but it is disgraceful that someone can just drive off without reporting an accident.”

She fears her one-year-old car will be a write-off - after one of the wheels, as well as a front panel and wing mirror, were both smashed off in the incident on High Road, Warmsworth.

She added: “The wheel and tyre were completely flat to the road - so the car that did it must have hit mine at some speed.”

Sue, a founder member of Warmsworth Pudding Club, a monthly get-together for cake and pudding lovers in the village, had parked the car on the road outside her home and actually heard the collision.

But it wasn’t until a few moments later that Sue decided to check her vehicle - which ordinarily would have been parked in an off-road parking space at the other side of the street.

“I had been unloading some things and was about to move it,” she said. “When I saw what had happened I stood there shaking and feeling physically sick. The impact was so hard it had lifted my car onto the pavement.”

She is pleading for anyone to come forward who may have seen the smash, which took place just a few hundred yards from The Holiday Inn hotel and A1(M) intersection at Warmsworth. In particular she hopes to identify the owners of a silver VW Golf, seen driving slowly nearby shortly afterwards with the occupants behaving suspiciously.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident 1,110 of November, 10.
