SOUTH YORKSHIRE POLICE APPEAL   Police in Doncaster are appealing for the publics help in tracing two women who may be able to help with a theft that occurred on Wednesday, 25 January.   The incident happened around 3.15pm in a local supermarket in Doncaster town centre.   An elderly woman was doing her shopping in the store, when two women approached her. One of the women distracted her by asking her to reach for an item while the other one allegedly reached into her bag, which was in her trolley, and stole her purse.   Police have released a CCTV image of the two women they are hoping to trace.   Police would also like to remind residents to be vigilant when out in busy places and always keep bags secure and zipped up.     Anybody who may recognise the women should contact the police on 101 quoting incident number 715 of the 25 January 2012, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Doncaster man claims ‘menacing tweet’ verdict makes law look ‘silly’

A DONCASTER man found guilty of sending a “menacing tweet” was the victim of a legal “steamroller” that threatened to make the law look silly, the High Court was told.

Kieran Waite (8), who attends Warmsworth Primary School, won a Doncaster schools competition run by the local police community support officer, Scott Christie, last year. Youngsters had to design a logo for the campaign to stop people parking on yellow lines and zig zag lines outside school gates. Kierans design of a bumble bee, called PC Bumble, won him first prize. Kieran has seen his design come to life in the shape of a large stand up figure and won a certificate, �20 of vouchers and a trophy for his school at the time. Now he  has received  a number of high visibility vests and white baseball caps, complete with his logo, for his school. Mr Davies said: Kieran did an excellent job designing this logo. It gives me great pleasure to present him with his schools supply of high visibility vests and baseball caps, which will help to keep Kieran and his fellow pupils safe and sound when they are walking in the area with their teachers on school visits.
