‘Disgraceful’ white van man fined over flytipping

Dean Bailey caught on camera flytipping by members of the public.

A FLY-TIPPER has been ordered to pay nearly £1,000 after he was caught red-handed dumping rubbish.

Dean Bailey, aged 38, of Prince of Wales Road, Manor, Sheffield, was spotted by eagle-eyed members of the public unloading the contents of a white van onto a disused car park off Sylvester Street in Sheffield city centre.

Bailey dumped rubbish including old beds and furniture, along with numerous sacks of waste - leaving taxpayers with a bill for hundreds of pounds.

Two members of the public witnessed the crime and took photos of the fly-tipper’s vehicle, showing the number plate.

They contacted Sheffield City Council and officials were used the registration to trace Bailey and bring him to justice.

Bailey pleaded guilty at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court to a specimen charge of unlawfully depositing waste, and was sentenced to a 12-month community order with a £750 fine and £200 costs.

At an earlier hearing, the district judge told Bailey the offence was ‘disgraceful and sickening’ and said he could have gone to jail for six months.

The court was told Bailey would probably have gone unpunished if he hadn’t been spotted.
