Crash blocks country road

The road between Blaxton and Westwoodside, near Doncaster, was closed yesterday afternoon due to a serious accident.

One person was said to be trapped in the wreckage of two vehicles which collided on the B1396 near the border of South Yorkshire and Humberside just after noon.

It happened on Doncaster Road at the junction with Idle Bank and involved a silver coloured Vauxhall Astra van and a Volkswagen Passat.

An ambulance crew treated casualties but the injuries were not life threatening.

Fire crews from Rossington station were called and assisted colleagues from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service with the operation.

Police closed the road at both ends during the rescue operation, until 1.30pm.
