Crackdown on loan sharks

ROTHERHAM residents are being urged to shop loansharks to the authorities as part of a new campaign.

The England Illegal Money Lending Team is working with Rotherham Council to encourage people to report the crime if they have been victims.

Representatives visited Rotherham bus station to offer advice on how to avoid loan sharks, and handed out merchandise including pens and trolley tokens.

Coun Rose McNeely, cabinet member for Safe and Attractive Neighbourhoods, said: “Those who target vulnerable people in our communities in this way are criminals. Whatever situation you are in financially, help, advice and support are available.”

n Anyone who wants to report a loan shark in confidence should call 0300 555 2222.
