Council votes on council tax

COUNCIL tax bills in North East Derbyshire are to rise for the first time in two years.

Councillors increased bills by 1.99 per cent - 4.5p a week for Band A properties - in a bid to bridge a shortfall in Government funding.

Pat Kerry, the councillor with responsibility for Finance and the Economy, said: “We are reluctant to place any extra burden on already struggling households, but we also have to make sure we can protect the frontline services local people rely on.”
