Changes to council tax benefit have been agreed in North East Derbyshire.
The new scheme means that, from 2013-14, all working age people who are eligible for council tax benefit will have to pay some of their bill – at least 8.5 per cent, or approximately £85 a year for a Band A property.
Previously some people were eligible for a 100 per cent discount.
Owners of empty properties or second homes will have to pay 100 per cent of their bill.
And exemption for empty properties will be reduced from six to three months.
Pensioners will not be affected by the changes.
