Council backs decision to send officers into Page Hall

Police have received support for drafting a team of officers into a Sheffield suburb hit by community unrest.

Nine officers are to be based at Earl Marshal Youth Centre, Page Hall, to be ‘at the heart of the community’ to tackle issues around integration following an influx of immigrants into the city suburb, which has led to a clash of cultures.

Coun Mazher Iqbal, Sheffield Council cabinet member for communities and inclusion, said: “We welcome the move by the police to have dedicated officers based within Page Hall to work with people in the area.

“As a council, we are working closely with the police, the local community, and landlords as well as faith and voluntary groups to address the issues people are facing.”

Last week groups of Yemeni and Roma Slovak residents, involving around 25 men and youths, clashed. Five arrests were made.
